Configuration files

Because I know programming your new radio or scanner can be a slight inconvenience, I make all of my radio-related configuration files available to everyone. Please note that I created these files for my own use, therefore there’s probably some frequencies listed that you don’t need or there are some frequencies not listed that you do need. They are primarily public safety systems. I provide these files with no guarantee or warranty.

Comma-separated value (CSV) files are files that can be manipulated and imported with many programs, as opposed to proprietary formats such as bcTool or FreeScan, etc.

Scanner files

The scanner files are configured for Uniden BCT/BCD dynamic memory scanners and updated regularly for Polk County and all surrounding counties (Boone, Story, Marshall, Dallas, Jasper, Madison, Warren and Marion). Most major Iowa cities are also programmed in, including P25 systems. Most RACOM towers in Iowa are also configured. FRS, GMRS, CB, are also included.

QuickKey layout
Because I traveled throughout the state frequently, I needed to have systems programmed in for the most populous areas “just in case” I am on a breaking news assignment in that area. This required a little bit better group management. GPS was not an option due to the processing time of positioning vs. frequencies, and also the fact that I didn’t have a spare GPS. This system is setup so that as I move into each “zone” I can unlock and lock systems as necessary. This is especially necessary for RACOM, as I have all of their Iowa towers programmed in (that’s a ton of sites!) with associated talkgroups. Zones are divided based on population density and geographic location. A small map is included below.

Each zone has its own quick key. Example: Zone 2 (Central Iowa) is quick key 2, Zone 3 (Northwest) is quick key 3. Note that zone 1 is Iowa Statewide (State Patrol, State Fire Marshal, interops, etc), 9 is Kansas City (including Missouri DPS).

Quick key 99 — “Quiet mode” — is simply a special group that consists of mutual aid channels, Iowa State Patrol/DCI, NWS MICRN, and car-to-car channels for when I prefer to cut out the continuous chatter of dispatch channels.
